Today's world is marked by conflicts, events that are profoundly shaping the future we, as young Europeans, will inherit. These global challenges have a direct impact on our security, our societies and the opportunities that lie ahead, demonstrating why our active engagement is not only important, but essential. We call on Europe to address the urgent and critical need to protect vulnerable civilians caught up in the turmoil of war, as well as our own citizens whose social and economic standards have been affected by ongoing conflicts. Europe has been strategically dependent on the United States for its security, and this needs to be reconsidered in the interests of our greater independence. Another challenge is how to forge a robust unity of the European Union amid a spectrum of diverse foreign policy opinions and varying military potentials among member states. We should also critically reassess the extent of Europe's responsibility for, and direct military involvement in, global conflicts and reassess our posture and capabilities. We also highlight the problem of insufficient public awareness of appropriate responses to crises. Crucially, we must seek to strike a balance between increasing military spending, which has been inadequate for years, and ensuring that substantial military spending does not divert essential funds from vital social programmes, thereby compromising our collective well-being and our future.
